SANTILLO

ABOUT ME
Davide Santillo (Como, born in 2003) approaches art and photography at the age of 13.
He attends the art school specializing in multimedia, where he comes into contact with the world of video and graphics. After high school he attended the Istituto Italiano di Fotografia in Milan, being admitted to the second year and obtaining a diploma as a photographer at the age of 19. In 2022 he made his first solo exhibition, “Blackout Exhibition”, and in 2023 he exhibited in a group exhibition at the Franco Angeli Academy in Bicocca.
His artistic taste has been greatly influenced by graphics, and this side often returns within his works, both video and photographic. Initially he approached the world of street photography, which he tackled with a graphic and geometric eye, enhancing lights and shadows through the use of a very contrasting black and white. Passionate also about portraiture and fashion photography, he discovers more and more the charm of the human being, which brings him closer to anthropological photography.
RIPPED OFF
Even being not in the foreground, man is the main element of his latest project “Ripped off”, in which he documents the testimonies of a torn and corrupt society, deprived of all those values that once pervaded it. The term “Ripped off” in English has a double meaning: it literally means torn, lacerated, while in slang it takes on the meaning of robbed, cheated, deceived. The tear within the works then becomes the element through which society is exposed, unmasked.
“For every word is a lie, every smile grimace, and every gesture falsehood” – Ingmar Bergman.
